Michael Corrigan has 20 years' experience providing trade practices and competition law advice. 

His expertise extends across dealings with the ACCC, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory investigations, litigation, cartels, and commercial supply and distribution arrangements.

Michael has also worked extensively with some of the leading Australian and US economic experts in anti-trust and competition law matters and has been involved in many competition reform and recent deregulation issues in Australia.

Woolworths: A principal competition adviserfor Woolworths Limited for 15 years, including a range of acquisitions, ACCC investigations and litigation.


Reserve Bank of Australia: 
Successfully represented the RBA on various legal challenges to the RBA's statutory reforms to credit card and EFTPOS systems in Australia, which involved complex analysis of the economics and regulation of payments systems and network economics.

Infrastructure Access and Regulation

Michael's work in this area includes:

  • advising the successful bidder for the new Melbourne automotive import terminal , and negotiating undertakings to the ACCC governing terminal access at Melbourne and Fremantle;
  • advising ARTC on various ARTC rail access obligations;
  • advising and representing an interested party on successful opposition to a recent access declaration to the jet refuelling infrastructure at Sydney Airport under Part IIIA of the Act;
  • advising coal producers on ACCC authorisation applications for the Hunter Valley Coal supply chain;
  • advising Newcastle coal infrastructure Group on various port access issues concerning Newcastle Port;
  • advising Toll and Asciano on various access undertakings concerning rail terminals and rolling stock in connection with the Patrick acquisition.

Toll/Asciano: Handled the ACCC clearance of Toll Holdings' acquisition of Patrick Corporation in 2006 and the subsequent re-negotiation in 2007 of Toll's ACCC undertakings to enable Toll to de-merge Asciano Limited and retain the majority of the assets which the ACCC had originally required to be divested.

PMP: Acted for PMP Limited in 2007 on its successful acquisition of The Times, a Melbourne-based competitor in the heatset web offset printing industry owned by the Times Group of Singapore and successfully negotiated the ACCC clearance.
