Shigeki Yamaura is a special counsel within the Corporate/M&A/Capital Markets group in Brisbane.

Shigeki's experience includes acting for Japanese and Australian clients on a wide range of corporate matters such as mergers and acquisitions (public and private), foreign investments, joint ventures, equity finances, corporate restructurings and general contract advice. As part of Clayton Utz's Japan Practice Group, he has advised a number of clients on their investments into Australia.

  • Mitsui & Co: Acted for the Mitsui Group in their sale of 20% shares in Stanmore SMC Pty Ltd (formerly BHP Mitsui Coal Pty Ltd) to Dampier Coal (Queensland) Pty Ltd.
  • Idemitsu: Acting for the Idemitsu Group on its sale of its stake in the Ensham Coal Project.
  • Japan Australia Rare Earths: Acted for Japan Australia Rare Earths in its equity funding of Lynas Rare Earths for Lynas' expansion of production capacity and other related arrangements.
  • SBI Shinsei Bank: Acted for SBI Shinsei Bank on its acquisition of 10% interest in Latitude Group Holdings Limited from the consortium of KKR, Värde Partners and Deutsche Bank.
  • Olympus Corporation: Acted for Olympus Corporation on the restructuring of its Australian businesses for divestment of the Imaging and Life Science Solutions Businesses.
  • Asahi Kasei Homes: Acted for Asahi Kasei Homes on its acquisition of 40% interest in McDonald Jones Homes Pty Ltd from its two other shareholders and on new joint venture arrangement between Asahi Kasei Homes and the other remaining shareholder.
  • Nippon Paint: Acted for Nippon Paint Holdings on its acquisition of DuluxGroup Limited by way of scheme of arrangement.
  • MBK Partners: Acted for MBK Partners on Australian aspects of its acquisition of Godiva group of companies' Asia-Pacific assets.
  • Nissui Corporation: Acted for Nissui Corporation on its subscription of a minority interest in Seafarms Group Limited and related strategic transactions.
  • Nomura Research Institute: Acted for Nomura Research Institute on its acquisition of ASG Group Limited by way of scheme of arrangement.
