Clayton Utz is proud to have advised Gilmour Space Technologies ("Gilmour Space") on its A$217 million Series E capital raising that positions the company as Australia’s first space unicorn – a privately held space sector start-up valued at over AUD$1 billion.

The capital raising was co-led by the National Reconstruction Fund and Hostplus, each contributing A$75 million, with additional investment from existing shareholders Blackbird, Main Sequence and QIC Ventures, as well as first-time investors the Future Fund, Funds SA and Brighter Super, reflecting the increasing appetite of Australian superannuation funds for investment in deep tech and innovation.

The funding will enable Gilmour Space to carry out future launches and to scale its satellite manufacturing operations, further advancing Australia’s sovereign space capabilities.

Gilmour Space’s profile has continued to rise in recent months, following the successful maiden test flight of its rocket launched from Australian soil in July 2025.

Clayton Utz’s transaction team was led by partner Andrew Hay with support from Clayton Barrett and Laura van Stekelenburg.

Commenting on the transaction, Mr Hay said:

"This is a landmark moment for Gilmour Space and the Australian space sector. The successful completion of this capital raising highlights the growing interest and confidence in Australia’s deep tech and aerospace industries. We look forward to seeing Gilmour Space continue to succeed."

James Minchinton, General Counsel at Gilmour Space, added:

“Space is hard and is something that can only be undertaken with a strong and solid group of people around you. Given the importance of this raise to the future plans of the company, Gilmour Space is extremely happy with the practical and pragmatic approach of the Clayton Utz team and the way they swiftly tackled the issues and solved the problems.  We would like to thank Andrew Hay and the team in getting this deal done and supporting our quest for creating a sovereign Australian space capability.”
