Professor Janet Walker CM, C Arb, DPhil (Oxon)

Professor Janet Walker CM, C Arb, DPhil (Oxon) is an independent arbitrator practising from Sydney Arbitration Chambers, Toronto Arbitration Chambers, and Atkin Chambers in London. For 25 years, she has served in ad hoc and ICC, ICDR, DIAC, HKIAC, KCAB, PCA and SIAC-administered commercial and treaty arbitrations in a variety of seats in the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe.

Janet is founding co-chair of CanArbWeek, an executive editor of the Canadian Journal of Commercial Arbitration, and past chair of the ICC Canada Arbitration Committee.

Janet is a Distinguished Research Professor and past Associate Dean of Osgoode Hall Law School. She is the author of the main text in private international law in Canada, Conflict of Laws in Canada, the most judicially cited private law work, and a co-author of Commercial Arbitration in Australia under the Model Law and The Laws of Australia: Arbitration. In 2018, Janet received the Ciarb Canada Award for Distinguished Service; and in 2021, she was appointed to the Order of Canada for her work in advancing the field of international dispute resolution in Canada.
