Overview

Tristan is an experienced infrastructure, construction and project development lawyer with over 18 years of post-admission experience. He works with project companies, contractors, financiers and government clients across the full project lifecycle, helping them navigate the complexities of major projects in the infrastructure, energy and resources sectors in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Tristan has extensive experience drafting and negotiating complex procurement documentation and concession agreements, as well as bespoke and major international standard form contracts, including FIDIC, Australian Standards and NEC. He brings particular depth from nearly four years of practice at a leading international firm in Singapore, where he advised on project development and project finance, giving him a strong understanding of cross-border projects and international contracting standards.

  • * Perth Airport: Advising Perth Airport on key aspects of its capital works program, including the engagement of a capital partner for its capital works program, design, construction and development of Perth's first airport hotel, and various infrastructure and expansion projects across of the airport estate.

  • * Curtin University Accommodation Project: Advising on the agreements for the design, development, facilities management and financing of student accommodation facilities at Curtin University, a PPP-style complex infrastructure project.

  • * Liontown Resources, Kathleen Valley Lithium Mine: Advising across all aspects of the lithium mine and associated development, including procurement and project establishment documentation and early-stage contract administration and dispute resolution.

  • * AngloGold Ashanti: Acting on the initial development and subsequent expansion of the Tropicana Gold Project, including mining services, supply, construction and ancillary contracts, as well as ongoing expansion and day-to-day advice on the Tropicana Gold Mine and Sunrise Dam Gold Mine.

  • * Public Transport Authority and State Solicitor’s Office: Advising on various rail assets in Western Australia, including asset relocation, development and dispute resolution, and recently on the Leonora intermodal rail line shortening.

  • * City of Perth: Advising on various infrastructure projects, including the Heirisson Island causeway pedestrian and cyclist bridges project and on arrangements for the proposed redevelopment of Carillon City in Perth CBD.

  • * Rio Tinto: Advising on various project development matters, including updating its global suite of construction, engineering, procurement and supply contracts, and on EPC/EPCM contracting arrangements and risk allocation for greenfields and renewable energy projects supporting its decarbonisation strategy.

  • * Multiplex: Advising on design and construction matters, including contracts for the $2.7bn Quay Quarter Tower in Sydney and the 1 Denison Street project.

  • * Edenvale Solar Project: Advising on the development of the 200+ MW Edenvale solar project, including negotiating and advising on EPC and O&M contracts.

  • * Midland Health Campus: Advising and negotiating design and construction contracts for a large and innovative public and private social infrastructure project at Midland Health Campus, involving aspects of PPP and collaborative contracting.

  • * Larfarge Holcim: Advising, preparing and negotiating arrangements in respect of new and expansion production plant projects across South and Southeast Asia.

  • * Nghi Son Refinery: Advising in respect of the engineering and construction of the multi-billon dollar Nghi Son Refinery Project in Vietnam.

  • * Southeast Asian Energy and Infrastructure Projects: Advising on the development, financing and construction of major energy and infrastructure projects across Asia, including development of significant processing plant infrastructure, major port infrastructure, new energy projects and other social, public and government infrastructure across Asia.
