Case Study: Cyber Incident Response Capability Assessment for a Government Agency
The background
The agency's newly formed cyber incident response capability was still in its early stages, with limited frameworks and maturing technical visibility. Independent support was needed to assess readiness and chart a clear path forward across governance, people, process and technology.
How we assisted
Clayton Utz conducted a detailed assessment of the agency's cyber incident response capability, reviewing the incident response plan, governance structures and cross-agency collaboration. The team mapped response team structures to align with the organisation's broader transition and assessed operational maturity across key teams using a people, process and technology lens.
Two cyber simulations tested real-world response capabilities and identified practical gaps between plans and execution. Targeted staff training, stakeholder workshops, documentation reviews and site visits built a thorough understanding of the organisation.
The engagement delivered a clear, independent view of the agency's cyber maturity, a practical roadmap for uplift and a stronger foundation for cyber resilience.
