Leading Australian University – AI in research

The Background

We continue to act in the higher education space, advising a leading Australian university on the impact of AI on its research program. 

The Details

The advice covered intellectual property (esp. copyright and patent) ownership and infringement issues in training and using AI models, compliance with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research when using AI, and an overview of AI related issues presented by privacy, discrimination, contractual liability and workplace laws.

The Background

We advised employers on the potential discriminatory impacts of AI use, particularly in recruitment processes.

The Importance

Our team provided broader advice on the impact of Australian anti-discrimination laws to advise clients on a range of matters including management of pre-employment checks and data storage.

The Background

We advised on the use of AI in the discharge of regulatory functions.

Our Services

Included advising on decision-making processes and the use of AI, the reliance on AI in regulatory decision-making processes and considering judicial review risks and issues in reliance on AI in exercising statutory powers and functions.
