Clayton Utz is celebrating alongside our client Seven West Media (Seven) which yesterday announced that it had successfully renewed its AFL media rights from 2025 to 2031.
Partner Tim Webb from our IP & Technology practice – which was recently awarded Intellectual Property Team of the Year at the 2022 Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards – assisted Seven.
Seven’s renewal of its partnership with the AFL sees it secure a comprehensive package of free-to-air broadcast rights and digital rights for both AFL and AFLW matches. This will enable fans to engage with the best AFL and AFLW games, live and free, in a way that suits them including via 7plus.
Tim Webb said Clayton Utz was proud to have assisted Seven’s team to secure this outcome.
This is a landmark and strategically significant deal for Seven, which is synonymous with the AFL. The new digital rights package means AFL fans will be able to access even more content and is a great win all round.
