Clayton Utz CEP Elect Emma Covacevich has chosen Perth partner Nick Cooper to be our firm's next Deputy Chief Executive Partner (DCEP), effective 1 July 2023.
Nick started his career at Clayton Utz in 2004 and currently leads our national Commercial Litigation practice. He was also Partner-in-Charge of the Clayton Utz Perth office from 2014-2020.
Emma, who was named in December as our next CEP, said Nick's qualities and experience made him an excellent fit for the role: "Nick is well-known and respected both as a lawyer and leader. He understands what it takes to build a successful practice, as well as the operational aspects of running a business. He is a strategic thinker, deeply loyal to our firm and, like me, is invested in our continued success. I'm looking forward to our working together, and building on Clayton Utz's reputation as a firm that truly understands and is responsive and adaptive to our clients' needs, and those of our people."

I'm honoured to be stepping into a senior leadership role working alongside Emma. My approach to leadership has always been about collaboration, transparency and being true to your values. I'm also invested in our continuing to foster the fantastic culture we have at this firm, and ensuring that our clients' experience reflects the exceptionally high standards we set for ourselves. It's exciting to be part of this next stage of our evolution as we respond to the opportunities and embrace the challenges of being in a competitive legal market.
