Media Release: Clayton Utz lawyers Mahsa Javam and Emma Vautin among the legal profession's top 30 under 30

Sydney, 15 May 2019: Clayton Utz lawyers Mahsa Javam and Emma Vautin were named among Australia's top young legal talent at the 2019 Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards held in Sydney on 10 May.

Mahsa, a Sydney-based lawyer in the Corporate, M&A and Capital Markets practice group, won the Commercial category. Emma, who practises in the Workplace Relations, Employment & Safety (WRES) Melbourne team, took out the top spot in the Workplace Relations category.

Mahsa and Emma were among 30 winners chosen from over 200 finalists across 30 categories, recognised for their professional excellence and contributions to the legal profession and wider community.

Among Mahsa's achievements are taking a lead role in a major bank's implementation of comprehensive credit reporting (CCR) during a recent secondment, and advising on the  development and launching of new consumer products as well as overseeing a number of personal banking remediations. Mahsa is also active in the community, including as a mentor with Remarkable Accelerator, Australia’s leading accelerator for start-ups in the disability sector, and as an advocate for a number of charitable organisations such as Cerebral Palsy Alliance and Cancer Council.

Emma is a valued member of the Clayton Utz Workplace Relations team who has led cutting-edge litigation for clients including a major oil and gas company, which is setting legal precedent in the Australian industrial relations system. In the last 12 months, Emma has led multiple strands of litigation in almost all jurisdictions including the Full Federal Court, Federal Court, Victorian Supreme Court, the Fair Work Commission and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Emma is also active in pro bono work and plays a key role in fostering a strong relationship between Inner Melbourne Community Legal Centre (IMCLC) and the Melbourne WRES team.  

Three other Clayton Utz lawyers were finalists in award categories: Suzana Livaja (Financial Services), Georgia Davis (Projects, Energy and Resources) and Nicola Bevitt (Technology, Media and Telecommunications).

The Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 awards are in their seventh year. The awards celebrate young lawyers for their professional excellence and contributions to the legal profession and wider community.
