Sydney, 12 August 2015: Clayton Utz congratulates Sydney partner Brigitte Markovic on her appointment as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia, announced by the Federal Attorney-General yesterday. Brigitte's appointment will take effect on 24 August 2015.
Brigitte began her legal career at Clayton Utz as a graduate in 1988 and became a partner in 1997. She went on to build an impressive litigation practice, highlights of which include representing ASIC at the HIH Royal Commission and from first instance to the High Court in the James Hardie proceedings.
Brigitte has also held a number of senior leadership roles at Clayton Utz. She served as the departmental managing partner for Litigation and Dispute Resolution from 2010 until July 2014, and was instrumental in establishing the firm's Federal Government practice from 1997 to 2000.
Clayton Utz chief executive partner Rob Cutler said Brigitte's appointment as a Federal Court judge evidenced her standing as a legal practitioner in Australia. "Brigitte has established a reputation as one of the country's pre-eminent litigators. She will be an outstanding addition to the bench. We are immensely proud of her."
