Michael Hwang SC takes the stage at the 13th Annual International Arbitration Lecture

The lecture will focus on the forthcoming establishment of the Singapore International Commercial Court and its role and impact on dispute resolution in the region.

This year's 2014 International Arbitration Lecture will be the 13th annual lecture organised by Clayton Utz in conjunction with the University of Sydney. The lecture will take place on Tuesday 11 November 2014 at the Federal Court in Sydney.

This year we are delighted to welcome Michael Hwang SC, a leader on the international stage for arbitration, who will present on the topic "Commercial Courts and International Arbitration – Competitors or Partners?" to an audience filled with international arbitration practitioners, academics and students. The focus of the lecture will be on the forthcoming establishment of the Singapore International Commercial Court and its role and impact on dispute resolution in the region.

Senior Counsel Michael Hwang who, over his distinguished legal career, has been appointed to numerous professional bodies, possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience in international law and arbitration. He has served as the President of the Law Society of Singapore, the Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court of Singapore and the Vice Chairman of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chambers of Commerce, to name but a few of his achievements.

He is presently the Chief Justice of the DIFC Courts in Dubai.

The annual Clayton Utz and University of Sydney International Arbitration Lecture is designed to promote and support the development and study of international arbitration and international dispute resolution in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Now in its thirteenth year, the International Arbitration Lecture has become a pinnacle event, attracting physically and online attendees from around the globe.
