Allsop CJ set to lead the way in 12th Annual International Arbitration Lecture
The annual Clayton Utz and University of Sydney International Arbitration Lecture is designed to promote and support the development and study of international arbitration and international dispute resolution in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
This year's 2013 International Arbitration Lecture will be the 12th organised by Clayton Utz in conjunction with the University of Sydney, taking place on Tuesday 29 October 2013 at the Federal Court in Sydney.
This year we are delighted to welcome a very prominent Australian guest speaker, the Honourable Chief Justice James Allsop AO, who will present on the topic "The authority of the arbitrator – its sources, limits, and importance" to an audience filled with international arbitration practitioners, academics and students.
Chief Justice Allsop, who was appointed Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Australia earlier this year after holding positions as Judge of the Federal Court of Australia and President of the NSW Court of Appeal, has a particular interest in international law. His Honour lectures in international admiralty and maritime law at the University of Sydney and is well known for his delivery of the landmark decision of the Full Federal Court of Australia in Comandate Marine Corp v Pan Australia Shipping Pty Ltd in 2006.
