Perth, 27 November 2012: Clayton Utz Perth lawyer, Tom Jasper, has been awarded first prize in the influential Resources and Energy Law Association (AMPLA) annual essay competition.
Each year the WA branch invites entrants to submit essays on any aspect of energy or resources law.
Tom's prize-winning essay titled 'Sole Risk Operations in Australian Oil and Gas Joint Ventures' examined sole risk provisions in the broader context of the general law and Australian petroleum legislation, concluding that sole risk provisions are of limited utility in an Australian legal context.
At an awards ceremony held in Perth on Friday, Tom was presented with a prize of $1,000 and a copy of the most recent AMPLA Yearbook. Tom's essay will also be published in an upcoming AMPLA Journal.
Perth Energy & Resources partner, Kevin O'Sullivan, said Tom's achievement was testament to the depth of his knowledge, experience and practical understanding of legal aspects of the energy and resources sector. "The firm is very proud of Tom's achievement. His understanding of technical legal concepts and his ability to articulate them in a clear and concise manner distinguishes Tom as an outstanding legal practitioner in the energy and resources sector."
