Sydney, 9 December 2011: Clayton Utz partner and national Restructuring and Insolvency practice head Karen O'Flynn was last night named Best Lawyer in Insolvency and Restructuring at the inaugural Euromoney Legal Media Group Asia Women in Business Law Awards 2011 held in Hong Kong.

Award winners in 19 practice area categories were announced at a function at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, at which Hong Kong Federation of Women Lawyers President Anne Chen and HKEx Head of Legal Services and Chief Counsel Christine Wong were the keynote speakers.

Karen was one of four Clayton Utz partners shortlisted for awards. The other partners are:

  • Brigitte Markovic - Best lawyer in Dispute Resolution;
  • Julie Levis - Best lawyer in Real Estate.

Karen said she was honoured to be acknowledged as among the region's leading practitioners in her field. "There are many talented women in Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region who have achieved a reputation for legal excellence, which was evident in the list of finalists for these inaugural awards. I feel privileged to do the work that I do, and to lead a team at Clayton Utz that is recognised as pre-eminent in insolvency and restructuring. To have a fantastic group of clients that instructs us on so many challenging and interesting matters is also professionally very rewarding."

Clayton Utz Chief Executive Darryl McDonough said Karen was a worthy recipient of the award. "The firm is very proud of Karen's achievement. Karen is a respected practitioner in the insolvency and restructuring field, and is known for both her technical legal excellence as well as exceptional client service; Karen is a leading example of our commitment as a firm to excellence in all that we do."
