Backing a different horse - Racing Queensland Limited

by Tony Rein, Joanne Kleydish

Queensland has a new racing control body, Racing Queensland Limited.

The Queensland Government has created a new racing control body, Racing Queensland Limited. This body, an amalgamation of the previous racing control bodies for thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing in Queensland, has been granted the powers to manage the three codes of racing.

These legislative changes were implemented to provide a unified commercial approach and to facilitate effective decision-making for the Queensland racing industry as a whole, as well as to reduce administrative costs. There is uncertainty within the industry regarding the changes this new control body will make and the impact these changes will have on the racing industry in Queensland. We look at the changes in more depth here.
