Profile: Will Sharpe

Will Sharpe is a Senior Associate in the Government Services team who has recently joined Clayton Utz.

Before joining us, he worked as a Principal Legal Officer in the Indigenous Law Section of the Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA), and as a Senior Legal Officer in the Legal Opinions Section of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

Will has experience in a broad range of areas of government law, including statutory interpretation, administrative decision-making, the drafting of funding agreements, financial management and governance, the development of legislation, and Indigenous law.

As a Principal Legal Officer with FaHCSIA, Will was involved in a number of significant developments in Commonwealth Indigenous affairs policy, including the Northern Territory intervention. At DIAC, Will advised on the application of the Migration Act 1958 and the Migration Regulations 1994, including in relation to general decision-making powers under the Migration Act, the application of visa criteria under the Migration Regulations, detention powers and visa cancellation powers.
