Clayton Utz arts scholarship launches into 2009

Brisbane, 20 March 2009: Clayton Utz will give another Queensland artist the chance to further their career through the LAUNCH: Clayton Utz Travelling Arts Scholarship, entries for which are now open.

The Scholarship was launched in 2008 as part of the firm's commitment to supporting the arts.

Last year's Scholarship took the form of two $5,000 grants. This year, one grant of $10,000 will be awarded in June to a Queensland-based visual artist or an artist with a close connection to the state who can demonstrate their commitment to artistic practice.

The $10,000 will give the artist the opportunity to travel within Australia or overseas to undertake formal study, a residency or a planned program with a professional artist or mentor, or informal study for a planned research project.

The winner will also have their work exhibited at the LAUNCH exhibition at the Metro Arts Main Gallery in Edward Street and displayed at Clayton Utz' offices in Eagle Street on loan for 12 months.

Clayton Utz Brisbane managing partner Michael Klug said he hoped the LAUNCH: Clayton Utz Travelling Arts Scholarship would continue to foster artistic talent in Queensland.

"Through the LAUNCH initiative we hope to continue to contribute to the development of Queensland's thriving artistic community," he said.
