Approach to CU Canberra
The Canberra office is located within the Nishi Building, 1km away from Canberra’s CBD. The Edinburgh Av after London Cct bus stop is 300m from the Nishi Building. Accessibility information can be viewed via the ACT Transport at https://www.transport.act.gov.au/travel-options/bus/accessible-travel or telephone on 13 17 10 (02 6207 7611). The path to the Canberra office is mostly flat. View in Google Maps.
Cars and taxis can drop off on Phillip Law Street, which allows entrance to the Canberra office. There is a “Drop off” Zone at the front of the building. The wheelchair drop-off zone is directly in front of the building.
The overall route through the Nishi ground floor to Clayton Utz offices is wide and step free.
Entrances
The Canberra office is located on the 10th floor of the Nishi building and accessible via lift. The lifts are located to the right of the main staircase in the building's foyer.
Reception staff will be able to respond to specific requests or requirements from visitors with disability, for example accessible pathways, requests for different seating, changes in lighting, access to hearing loops etc. in meeting rooms.
Lifts
Passenger lifts serve each floor in the building and have been designed to accommodate wheelchair and disabled users. Pressing the raised wheelchair button holds the lift doors open for a longer period of time, allowing those with mobility impairments time to access the lift safely. The elevators notify passengers as it arrives on each level and provides an audible notification that ends when the doors close.
Parking
There is on-site car parking available for disabled visitors. Further information about the on-site car parking can be viewed on the Wilson Parking website.
Car parking spaces are not able to be pre-booked or reserved. There are two accessible elevators to take guests from the basement car parking to the Nishi building ground floor. From this elevator guests will then need to cross the building's foyer to access the elevators to take guests to level 10.
Facilities
Induction loops - hearing
An induction loop is available in the Seminar room and Boardroom. Please ask Reception staff for further information.
Wireless Access
Guest Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. Please ask at reception for further details.
Catering and restaurant facilities
In most instances catering will be delivered to your meeting room. Please advise the catering team in advance of any special dietary requirements prior to the visit.
Assistance animals
Water for guide dogs can be provided by our catering team. The closest relief area for guide dogs is the John Avery Gardens next to the Nishi Gallery (Kendall Lane).
Bathrooms
Accessible bathrooms are located by the male toilets on Level 10 and are right-handed.
Emergencies
Evacuation Instructions for mobility impaired visitors
In the unlikely event of an emergency evacuation, disabled visitors who are unable to manage the stairs will be evacuated by emergency services.
Please follow this procedure in the event of an evacuation:
- Escort your guest to one of the refuge points at the fire stairs as soon as the alarm sounds. The refuges are located in the lobby of the staircases on each floor and are protected from the effects of fire and smoke. Do not use refuges on staircase unless you have to.
- Use the emergency telephone (in the red box) to notify Security that you are in the refuge.
- The warden will be able to identify your location through the Fire Control Centre.
