Stuart Clark is internationally recognised as one of Australia's most experienced litigators, having acted in some of Australia's largest and most complex commercial litigation, class actions and product liability claims.
As head of the Clayton Utz Class Actions team, Stuart has been intimately involved in the development of Australian class action practice and procedure for over 20 years. He has acted in some of Australia's - and the world's - most high-profile class actions, including complex product liability and economic loss-based class actions. He has a particular interest in securities and financial loss class actions.
Stuart also advises corporations and financial institutions in regulatory investigations and inquiries. These include a growing number arising under foreign legislation including the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the UK Bribery Act and other anti-bribery and corruption laws. He provides crisis management advice to a number of clients, both government and commercial.
He led the firm's Product Liability practice to its position as the Australian market leader, and is internationally recognised for his expertise in the defence of class actions involving complex scientific and medical issues.
Stuart writes and lectures extensively, both in Australia and overseas, in relation to class actions and complex litigation. His work in this field led to his appointment in 2010 as an Adjunct Professor at Macquarie University Law School.
He is also currently the firm's Chief Operating Officer and Managing Partner - International.
Stuart is listed in both The International Who's Who of Product Liability Defence (2010) and The International Who's Who of Commercial Litigators (2010), and was recognised in the 2010 Best Lawyers list for Product Liability by the Australian Financial Review.
