Profile: John Shirbin

Key Points:

John Shirbin is a senior partner of Clayton Utz, and was the Managing Partner of the Firm from 1987 to 1990. More recently John has played a pivotal role in the formulation and success of the firm's Major Projects Group; his specialisation is in the structuring and financing of major projects and in debt and equity raisings of all descriptions.

 

John has advised Governments, developers and financiers in many of Australia's largest infrastructure projects including drinking water and waste water treatment plants, railways, toll roads, power stations, hospitals, Olympic facilities and ports.

 

His expertise has been extensively called on by both the private sector and Government in the delivery of infrastructure via PPP. John acted for banking syndicates on Sydney's Eastern Distributor and M2 Motorway and for RTA on the new Cross City Tunnel, a fully electronic toll road running east-west under the Sydney CBD.

He advised Government on the development of the Olympic Stadium and SuperDome and during the past year John has been working with Government in the delivery of social infrastructure including hospitals and prisons.

John is an avid fan of major sporting events and in the last year has been seen at the Australian Open, the Grand Prix and a large number of the Rugby World Cup matches.
