Luke Buchanan
Luke joined Clayton Utz Litigation/Dispute Resolution group in 1996 and was appointed as Partner in November 2005 (effective 1 January 2006).
Luke is experienced in dealing with the legal and commercial realities of dispute resolution and has been involved in a range of litigious matters, including urgent interlocutory applications, final trials and appeals, a major class action and many mediated disputes, in the Federal, Supreme, District and Local Courts.
Luke has worked for numerous clients, which have involved businesses in the insurance, banking and finance, retail and manufacturing industries.
Luke regularly contributes to both in-house and external publications.
David Hilliard
David has been Pro Bono Director at Clayton Utz since 1997 prior to his appointment as a Partner in November 2005.
David is one of Australia's leading pro bono voices. He has written a number of articles and papers about the importance of recognising pro bono work as an inherent professional responsibility of being admitted to practice law.
David has spoken at the First and Second Australian Pro Bono National Conferences, the National Association of Community Legal Centres' National Conferences, the UK Solicitors' Pro Bono Group Conference in London and the Pro Bono Institute Annual Seminar in Washington DC. He has also appeared on ABC Radio's "The Law Report", and before the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee.
David is currently a Board Member of the Public Interest Law Clearing House and Marrickville Legal Centre, is the private profession representative on the NSW Administrative Decisions Tribunal's Equal Opportunity Division Rules Committee, and was a contributor to the Australian Pro Bono Manual, published by the National Pro Bono Resource Centre.
David is the first pro bono Partner appointed at Clayton Utz, and leads our pro bono practice, which currently involves more than 26,000 hours of legal work each year.
