Key Points:

2008 Alumni events

Our Alumni events program has continued to grow since its successful launch last year, with four events held in London, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne over the last few months.

The London event, hosted at Shoreditch House in East London, attracted CU Alumni now living and working in London and a number of our current partners, including our Chief Executive Partner David Fagan.

In Sydney, Alumni reunited with old colleagues at the unique NG Art Gallery and Mission Restaurant & Bar, enjoying drinks and canapés while viewing Ann Cape's Presence and Place exhibition. Ann, whose lyrically figurative art has won distinguished art prizes and awards, also attended the event as a special guest.

Meanwhile our Melbourne Alumni enjoyed drinks and canapés at the eclectic new CBD bar Penny Blue while in Brisbane, Alumni guests were treated to taste sensations from across the globe at our Brisbane office.

Thank you to everyone who has attended our Alumni events this year. We hope to continue to connect past and present CU people and look forward to hosting more successful events in 2009.

Sports

Each year, Clayton Utz staff participate in a number of sporting events to raise money for charities, work on their fitness and to have some fun.

The BP Ultimate / BRW Corporate Triathlon is always very popular with our Sydney, Melbourne and Perth staff. Seasoned athletes and triathlon first-timers alike all don the Clayton Utz red to swim, cycle and run the various distances – challenging themselves to compete against other corporate teams and their colleagues whilst having a great time.

In Melbourne, more than half of the 24 CU participants were competing in their first triathlon but everyone agreed they were keen to do it again in 2009. Our two Perth teams achieved fantastic results with the Women's team winning the Female-Legal division in a time of two hours, 53 minutes and 53 seconds while our Men's team placed sixth in the Male-Legal division in a time of two hours 49 minutes three seconds.

Earlier this year 45 Clayton Utz Melbourne staff and CU family members participated in the 14.14km and 5.76km Run For The Kids event while Brisbane members braved a 5.00am start for the Bridge to Brisbane run. Sydney fitness enthusiasts also participated in the annual City to Surf run which winds up at Bondi Beach.

This year Clayton Utz Sydney again participated in the Leichhardt Rowing Club Corporate Rowing Challenge. Sixteen very eager individuals came together to form two crews made up of a mixture between first time and more experienced rowers.

While Clayton Utz didn't bring home the Lawyers trophy again this year everyone had an amazing day and rowed incredibly well after only four short weeks of training. Our A team placed fourth in the A Lawyers Final and second (by only half a boat length) in the Leichhardt Rowing Club Championship Plate while the B team placed second in the B Lawyers Final.

In addition to the above mentioned events, CU teams have taken part in a number of lunchtime, weekend and after-work sporting activities including soccer, netball, volleyball, rugby and basketball.
