Sydney, 7 August 2006: Clayton Utz partners have been recognised as among the most admired in Asia in a guide to the region's leading commercial lawyers.
Eight Clayton Utz partners have been named in Asialaw Leading Lawyers 2006, which honours the region's top legal counsel in a broad range of jurisdictions and practice areas.
The partners are Doug Jones AM (Construction), Geoff Simpson (Energy & Resources), Russell Berry (IP/IT), Allan Blaikie (Taxation), Julie Levis (Property), Anna Sharpe (IP/IT), Peter Knight (IT/IP) and Mary Still (IT/IP).
More than 14,000 corporate counsel, chief executives and top lawyers across 30 countries were surveyed to identify the region's most admired professionals in 21 practice areas and 16 jurisdictions.
Long-standing Clayton Utz Intellectual Property and Information Technology partner Mary Still says it is pleasing to note the level of representation of the firm's IP/IT practice among the individuals named.
"This underlines the strength in particular of our intellectual property and technology practices, which are consistently ranked among the best in Australia[1]," says Ms Still.
Clayton Utz's international services partner, Grant Fuzi, says the results reflect the firm's reputation for attracting and retaining high-quality lawyers and is also evidence of the success of its Asia strategy.
"Unlike its competitors, Clayton Utz decided that the best way to service its clients in Asia was not to open discrete offices but to support our clients as needed on their transactions in the region and where appropriate, partner with leading local firms in particular jurisdictions.
"That Clayton Utz lawyers are recognised in Asia is testament not only to their expertise, but also demonstrates that you do not need to be based in the region to be a known name.
"I congratulate our partners on their contribution to the firm's continued success in Australia and Asia."
