Sydney, 22 September 2005: Clayton Utz has announced the appointment of Mark Williamson as a partner in the firm's national Corporate Advisory/M&A group. Mr Williamson joins Clayton Utz from Coudert Brothers where he headed the Corporate Group in Australia.
Mr Williamson is an established corporate, M&A, securities and funds lawyer with 15 years Australian, US and international experience working in Sydney and New York.
His practice focuses on Australian and United States securities law and Australian and cross-border mergers and acquisitions. He also has a strong background in Australian private equity and funds management, including foreign investment into private equity funds and transactions, and is experienced in Australian managed investment scheme law and practice for both registered and wholesale funds and AFS licensing.
According to Wally McDonald, head of the firm's national Corporate Group, this appointment further deepens the firm's already highly regarded M&A, equity capital markets and private equity teams.
"Mark's arrival enhances our breadth of talent in the Corporate area. His experience advising on large transactions, and knowledge of the impact of US securities law and cross border issues on Australian companies and funds, complements our existing practice and will be of significant value to clients with offshore interests", Mr McDonald said.
Mark's recent work includes a major corporate transaction for Japanese-based Matsushita Investment and Development (MID) including the disposal of the Chifley Tower office complex in Sydney and the Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast, and acting for Castle Harlan Australian Mezzanine Partners on the raising of its CHAMP II buyout fund. He has also represented a number of private equity funds in their investments in a range of Australian companies.
Mark is joined at Clayton Utz by Patricia Williams (Special Counsel) and solicitors Cindy Ong and Christopher Yip.
