Background
Narelle Smythe is a partner in the Major Projects practice group. She practises in the areas of Government Services, Privacy, credit and banking law, anti-money laundering laws, payment systems, privacy and electronic delivery. Her practice is both litigious and non-litigious in those areas.
She has acted for a range of clients including major retail banks, securitisers, mortgage originators, finance companies, retailers, building and friendly societies, insurers and motor dealers. Her work has included drafting standard form documentation, procedures and compliance manuals, conducting consumer credit and other banking litigation, assisting organisations to resolve contraventions (including systemic contraventions) of credit and banking laws, and regulatory issues.
Narelle is an expert on Government tender processes and documentation. She has acted for Government on a number of procurement projects, advising on processes, probity issues, drafting of tender documentation and contracts and in litigation. She has considerable experience in acting in litigation for public sector entities in which their decision are sought to be impugned.
Narelle has particular expertise in cards (including smartcards, stored value cards and credit cards), the electronic delivery of financial services, privacy payment systems.
