
Medical Research and Compensation Foundation (MRCF): Represented MRCF in its high-profile dispute with James Hardie concerning the adequacy of funding for asbestos claims, which resulted in the New South Wales Government ordering a Special Commission of Inquiry into the matter.
MRCF Directors: Acted in proceedings in the Supreme Court of New South Wales in which the directors of the MRCF sought and were granted relief under section 1318 of the Corporations Act 2001 in relation to the payment of asbestos-related claims.
Federal Treasury and the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation: Acted for the ARPC in relation to the Federal Government's Terrorism Insurance Scheme. Richard continues to advise the ARPC on insurance coverage and other issues.
Federal Treasury: Advice in relation to the establishment, implementation and ongoing administration of the HIH Claim Support Scheme which was established by the Federal Government in May 2001 following the collapse of the HIH Insurance Group.
Major financial institution Conducted an internal compliance audit to identify and resolve non-compliance issues with regulatory bodies. Proactive handling of the investigation resulted in the swift resolution of numerous compliance breaches without coming into conflict with the regulator.
International event organisation: Provided advice to on insurance issues connected with a major international event based in Sydney.
Tax litigation: Acted in an appeal in the High Court of Australia concerning the assignment of rights to receive a dividend and the collection of tax from a non-resident. In separate proceedings Richard has acted in the Federal Court of Australia concerning the application of Australia's double tax agreements with Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
